Directions to the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House

From Brighton on Soldiers Field Road
Merge into Storrow Drive East. In 1/3 mile, just at Harvard Stadium, take the exit; immediately turn left and cross the Charles River on the Anderson Bridge. Continue straight ahead on JFK Street. Turn left at the fourth light - you will see the red awning of "Nini's Corner" newsstand directly ahead. Then immediately ease into the right lane. After one block, (after the "T" subway) turn right to stay on Brattle Street. Soon you will start to pass residential homes. Keep going. The Hooper-Lee-Nichols House is on the right, #159  Brattle. (about a mile)

From Watertown
Pass the Mt. Auburn Street Star Market and after the second set of lights, take a left onto Brattle Street just after the entrance to the Mt. Auburn Cemetery on your right. Follow Brattle Street towards Harvard Square through two sets of lights.  Look for Kennedy Road on your left. It looks more like a driveway. The Hooper-Lee-Nichols   House is the three story blue-gray house on the left, with distinctive  black shutters.

From the Mass Pike - either direction

As you near the city, take Exit 18, which is marked "Allston-Brighton-Cambridge." After you pass through a tollgate, follow the exit ramp towards Allston-Brighton option—(NOT the Cambridge option.) Looping around the exit ramp you come out on Cambridge Street, heading West. Turn right at the second light onto North Harvard St. (Hess Gas Station on the corner) Go about a mile to  the next signal light, which is Western Avenue. Go through the light and shortly, you will see Harvard Stadium on your left (it looks like the Roman Coliseum) The brick buildings on the right are the Harvard Business School. Keep going straight, through the next light and up over the bridge that crosses the Charles River. Keep going straight: through three signal lights, (about three blocks), staying in the left lane Turn left at the fourth light - you will see the red awning of "Nini's Corner" newsstand directly ahead. Then immediately ease into the right lane. After one block, (after the "T" subway) turn right to stay on Brattle Street. Soon you will start to pass residential homes. Keep going. The Hooper-Lee-Nichols House is on the right, #159  Brattle. (about a mile)

From the North on Route 93
Get off at Medford Square exit and follow Route 16 for several miles.  After you pass the "Entering Cambridge" sign, continue on Route 16 for about a mile. Cross over Massachusetts Avenue. After about another mile, you will pass a "T" station on the right just before going over  a bridge. There are shopping centers on your left and right. At the first rotary bear left and go straight.  At the second rotary, go half way around it and the bear right onto Concord Avenue.  Go to the second set of lights and turn right onto Huron Avenue. Take the third left onto Appleton Street, then take a right onto Brattle Street. Hooper-Lee-Nichols is #159, a blue-gray house with distinctive  black shutters.

From the West on Route 2
Bear right and merge with Route 16. In ½ mile note shopping centers on your left and right. Note Fresh Pond Reservoir straight ahead. Bear left and go around the first rotary, keeping the reservoir on your right. At the second rotary, go half way around it and bear right onto Concord Avenue.  At the second set of lights take a right onto Huron Avenue. Take the third left onto Appleton Street.  Take a right onto Brattle Street. The Hooper-Lee-Nichols House is the second house on the right and is on the corner of Kennedy Road.

Parking
If coming to programs at the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House on Sunday, parking is permitted along Brattle Street. During programs held on any other day, parking is permitted between Appleton and Fayerweather Street on the north side of Brattle Street and between Lowell Street and Elmwood Avenue on the south side of Brattle Street. Parking is not permitted on Kennedy Road (beside the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House, or in the driveway.

By subway or bus

Take the Red Line subway to Harvard Square, then-

If walking: (10 to 15 minutes)
Exit T-station through main exit, (with token booths and Dunkin' Donuts stand-- not the "Church Street" exit.)  Cross the street towards the Harvard Coop (retail store), and bear left, and start walking along the sidewalk. You will pass Nini's Corner newsstand and then the Greenhouse Coffee Shop. Continue walking. The street curves right and after a few blocks you will start to pass residential homes. Keep going. The Hooper-Lee-Nichols House is on the right, #159  Brattle Street.

If taking the Bus:
Exit the turnstiles, entering main subway station area (token booths and a Dunkin' Donuts stand.)  Follow signs to "Waverley" and "Watertown" bus lines. Take either the  Waverly (#73) or Watertown (#71) bus. These buses go down Mt. Auburn Street.  Get off at the stop in front of the
Mt. Auburn Hospital. (The bus stop is just past Lowell Street.)Walk all the way down Lowell Street (1 long block). Lowell Street ends at Brattle Street. Cross Brattle street and turn left. The Hooper-Lee-Nichols house is # 159-- the gray house with black shutters immediately on your right.
